In 2007 I was asked to make a 'Giant Pumpkin' for a client who wished to gift it to her husband for a surprise for a wedding anniversary celebration.
..with a date deadline in view I made two pieces, for safety, as I always do, just in case one goes wrong, it is more relaxed as 'all eggs are not in one basket', and having two pieces to work on allows for slight differences..
..they were made in my French Studio, each driven back to UK in the back of our Volvo car to be glazed there..
One was driven a thousand miles raw and slightly damp, and the other was driven to a neighbouring French village where it was bisc fired in a gas kiln..
The one chosen to go to US was glaze fired to 1260, and developed, unsurprisingly a few wisdom cracks, the other was earthenware fired to 1060 and is ready to exhibit next year.
They were both coiled and stretched me to my coiling limits if ability..
